Back in the 70s I had a good friend who was a cardiologist. He did everything wrong: overweight, sedentary, poor diet, drank, smoked. When I remonstrated with him he told me that a heart attack was 'the easiest way to go, a bit of pain in your left arm, elephant sitting on your chest - and you're gone'. Dunno if that's at all comforting.
FWIW, recent research seems to show that the primary action of statins isn't so much lowering LDL as it's a systemic anti-inflammatory. If it were me, I'd consider lowering my daily dose *way* down and not worry much about LDL numbers.
