As to heavier people having higher social status in the Middle East, it very much wasn't that way in Beirut in the 70s - but that's arguably the Levant, not the Middle East, so... maybe?

Oh, and I don't have the very worst SNPs, and even those aren't homozygous - so not nearly as bad as it might be.

BTW, if you've gotten a DNA report, it's pretty simple to get the raw data (pretty much just a formatted text list). At that point, there's Promethase, that looks up everything, matches it against the population studies in SNPedia, hands you back a report for under $20. The one at FoundMyFitness is a lot easier to read (no need to look everything up - but fewer SNPs).

Disclaimer: I am a FMF "member" - pretty much because they explain a lot of this at a level appropriate for people who don't have a science background. There's a whole lot of cool stuff being discovered, but if you don't know how to read studies, you're at the mercy of journalists looking for a hot topic.
