As a semi-retiree, I've taken a few university courses through Coursera. They're fine — but as someone who doesn’t care about ‘certificates’, and is just looking to learn, I prefer Udemy.

That said, I have mixed opinions about fewer people going through college, mostly stemming from my lack of confidence in high schools teaching both critical thinking and learning skills.

Anyone trying to make their way in the world is going to desperately need learning skills, and critical thinking is critical to our nation’s future — look at the difference in voting patterns between college educated and non. If you’re a Trumpublican you probably disagree with me on this.

As a hiring manager (been there) I’d expect a candidate to have good communication skills (both in meeting and in writing), some technical chops, the ability to reason things through, and the ability to pick up new things fairly quickly.

BTW/FWIW, There’s certainly more to ‘critical thinking skills’, but ‘bullshit detector’ is the key one for voting behavior.
