Arguably, Algol, is one of those languages that’ll never completely disappear. Ever wonder why C, Python, PHP, and a number of other procedural languages have similar syntax? Yep. Algol. Some OO languages, too (even objects need procedures).

My first brush with it was something called Ratfor about 40 years ago. Even then, Algol was in the past — and still around.
