Agreed on most points. Particularly on trading with Saudi.
Germany's in a tough spot renewable-energy wise. It's typically cloudy and they're at a moderately high latitude so solar performance is poor (although there are some interesting things coming along to boost panel performance). And Germany's not windy. If you look at a wind map, there's a strip along the North Sea that looks pretty good, but it seems they haven't been erecting them there - just based on the mediocre per-generator performance they're getting. I'd have to guess that they're putting them in places where there are decent grid interconnects already. I'm going to hop into the main editor and paste a jpg of that wind map...
