+1 on being aware and remedying any deficiencies.

That said, it's not at all clear that the minimum daily requirement is all we need. I subscribe to Bruce Ames' Triage theory (nutrients get used for immediate needs before they're used for anything needed longer-term). Personally, I've been going on the assumption that 200-400% of the MDR won't hurt me (except in the wallet) - and might be enough for any long-term needs.
